HCI Snowshoe Tracking Trek at The Historic Becket
Quarry & Forest Preserve Free, preregistration required.
Join the Highland Communities Initiative and naturalist Aimee Gelinas in
exploring the 300 acre Becket Land Trust Historic Quarry & Forest
Preserve on snowshoes. This 3-mile, moderate trek will include animal
tracking, scenic, northeasterly vistas, towering hemlocks and glacial erratics. It
will be a hike if there is no snow. This program is co-sponsored
by The Becket Land Trust and the Berkshire Eastern Mountain Sports. Discounted
snowshoe rentals are available for $8 from the Berkshire EMS. Call
HCI at 413.268.8219 to register and to reserve a pair of snowshoes. Please
bring ski or hiking poles, wear warm layered clothing and winter boots. Bring
water and a lunch/snack.

Volunteer trail clean up. Please bring rakes, hand saws
or hand clippers.You can also see the newly blazed trails. We will
meet at the parking area at 10.

After the visit to the Quarry, an interpretive display, with Oral History
videos, will be available at the Mullen House Education Center across the road
from the BAC. Art work done or inspired by the Quarry at this visit, or at
other times, will be considered for the Annual Quarry Art Exhibition at the
MHEC in August.

MHEC/BLT Second Annual Art Exhibit which opens with a reception on Saturday August
16 and runs through Labor Day weekend. The theme will be "Places and
Faces in the Hilltowns."

annual meeting at the Mullen House.
